If you're seeing actual spam, that's a function of the server you're
using. For example, I buy news service from Supernews and rarely see
any because of the great job of filtering they do.

As far as "wackos" go, there was a lot of nonsense crossposted. The
regulars of this group are experienced enough to know that posting in
those kinds of threads merely prolong them, and if ignored, they will go
away in a couple days.
