Backyard chickens are reasonably common here; you can hear a rooster
from our kitchen window, and there are some living next to my mother.

If you do decide to get Araucanas, it's worth keeping an eye on the
genetics -- the gene that causes the distinctive ear tufts is dominant,
but two copies means the chick dies before hatching.

I'm going to make Dried Frog Pills from Nanny Ogg's Cookbook using one
of the small whites, in honour of Terry Pratchett, who was recently
diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's Disease.
