Make it yourself. It's very easy and you can either can or freeze it for
quick use. I think they use it because they can and it sells to a
generation grown up sucking down sugar coated everything.
Some people even add sugar to homemade tomato soup "to cut the acid." If
you don't like the small amount of acidity in tomatoes, use cabbage or green
beans for heaven's sake.
