I wasa told once at a citrus nursery that all types of Meyer lemons are
illegal because all the trees can harbor a devastating citrus disease known
as Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV), to which it is immune. Apparently CTV can
devastate entire groves of other lemon varieties.

It's not illegal to sell and buy the lemons here, but one rarely seens them
in stores except TJs or AJs (a local high-end market).
