somewhere around 1968, i went out on my first date with a girl from
richmond. we walked out to the car, and i got in, and then noticed
she was standing outside the car, waiting because i had failed to open
the door for her. i finally figured out what she was up to, so i
turned on the radio. after a minute or two, she got in, fuming.

probably the last battle of wills with her that i won.
