For the lady who is looking for American cookies.
Original Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon baking soda (not baking powder)
1 teaspoon hot water
2 1/4 cups unsifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts (optional) (Substitute more chips if desired)
1 12-oz. package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and add brown sugar and eggs; beat
until well blended. Dissolve baking soda in the teaspoon of water and add
to butter mixture. Stir in flour and salt. Add chopped nuts, chocolate
chips and the vanilla and blend together. Drop by half teaspoonfuls on
lightly greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake 10 - 12 minutes, or
until golden. If you want larger cookies, us a teaspoon at a time, and
space them 3 inches apart. This recipe is also good with mint chocolate
chips.
