Funny, my primary filter is to limit crossposts to 1 other group
and I don't see much spam or flame war garbage at all. There does
seem to be a somewhat persistent spammer in the past few days that
has not been crossposting, but that is easy to skip or selectively
filter until he/she/it goes away.

By far that majority of flames are crossposted, and much of the spam.
Spammers are lazy, so they crosspost a lot.
