There was a shrimp fishery in Alaska that went from Southeast Alaska
all the way up the coast to Kodiak and out the Aleutian Islands. For
reasons mostly not related to commercial fishing, most of it declined
severely and collapsed in the late 70s to early 80s. Nowadays, spot
shrimp are still fished (with pots) in Southeast Alaska, the take
being capped at around 800,000 pounds. They are available fresh in
local markets in SE towns and you can still go down to the docks and
buy them from the shrimpers. Utterly delicious. -aem
