My Weber Performer came with cast iron grates. They rust and rust and rust!
It's quite a pain. It's almost impossible to clean and oil a cast iron grate
after each use and at some point they rust. I use the plain old steel grate
with the hinges $18.00 at BBQ Galore. The direct heat from charcoal is hot
to the point where I wonder what benefit you would get, other than using
less charcoal.
