I've been to both the Laguna Playhouse and the Old Globe in San Diego
where there was smoking in (a) scene(s) and, yes, there was a warning
in the lobby *and* in the playlist. Ditto if there is strobe-effect
lighting, special effects, etc. that certain people might find
disturbing/annoying. And, IIRC, strobe-effect lighting can trigger
seizures in some people.

To my certain knowledge, there was no "coughing" due to the cigarette
smoking in the performances I attended.
