I know full well that things would have gone quite differently if my
husband had been there instead of me.
But as it was, I ran into the girl's mom a few minutes later.
Complimented her on her garb (green and purple brocade) and recounted
the whole "amusing anecdote".
The balance of the conversation conducted between two middle-aged women
standing side by side, arms folded, staring off into the trees:
"Tsss...."
"Mmm."
"Uh HUH."
"Yeah."
"Right. Right, then.... Lesson on Tuesday at 9?"
"As far as I know and weather permitting. Have J call E and confirm."
"Will do. Now... Which way did he go?"
No large cash transfers via a bail bondsman involved, no need to locate
a neurosurgeon capable of re-attaching a head that had been unscrewed
like the lid to a pickle jar.
Dunno know if he counted himself as lucky, though.
