i looked a little more this morning, and still couldn't find the
specific case. there's an article here, though, more generally on
examining laptop contents, which requires no warrant or probable cause
in u.s. airports:

i have the feeling this practice will end up before the supreme court
some day. hard to say what they would think about it.
