Default Lunch Today at Panini's

Out running more errands for Mom today, we stopped to have lunch in downtown
Beaufort. Panini's Cafe is in the heart of downtown with an upper level
with views overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway (Beaufort River). There's
an outside deck in the back which also affords a view of the riverfront park
and waterway but it was too hot to sit out there today. Panini's is located
inside the old Beaufort Bank building which predates the Civil War.
Fantastic architectural details include huge period fan light windows on two
sides of the upper level, a hammered tin ceiling and wonderful crown molding
details. I just love old places like this

I had the Crab Lasagna layered with marscapone, spinach and (of course) crab
meat. It was accompanied by a chilled artichoke hearts/tomato coulli (?).
I don't normally care for chilled vegetables and fruits but I adore
artichokes and it was really quite tasty. He decided to try the (local)
Shrimp Cheese Steak Sandwich, which is accompanied by roasted tomatoes and
marscapone seasoned with Old Bay.

Both meals were excellent! The service was very good even though we had a
trainee taking care of us (under the helpful eye of an experienced server).
The restaurant was busy but not overcrowded. If you ever get to Beaufort,
SC I highly recommend this place.
