Titanium dioxide doesn't strike me as "disgusting", and I am
unaware of any study that has indicated, much less proven,
that it is bad for one's health in food. (Breathing the dust
is another matter, but in that case, the same is true for
organically grown whole wheat flour.)
Yeah, I don't see the big deal about the slight yellow tinge
that butter would leave in the frosting, either, but the
original poster wanted pure white frosting. Titanium dioxide
in real butter cream frosting doesn't strike me as one
one-hundredth as disgusting as crisco frosting.
