SanDisk Cruzer 8 GB drives were recently on sale at Post Office Shops
here in Oz for under AUD50 each. Although their SysReqs say they need
Win XP or Vista to work as specified, in fact they will work okay with
Win ME for simple file storage. (On my system the drive shows up as
two "drives" -- one works as a normal thumb drive as far as I can see;
the other is a U3 system drive. I suspect it's the latter type that
requires XP/Vista.)
