When I was growing up, one of the first houses we lived in had
"battleship" linoleum on the kitchen and bath floors and on the walls up to
chair rail level. Twice a year mom would have it treated with paste wax
and power buffed. "Shine" was in, but the wax was unnecessary as far as
preserving the lino. It wears like iron, and is somewhat self-healing if
cut.
