We do use an enzyme product on a monthly basis that is flushed down the
toilet. According to In-Sink-Erator, their septic model is designed to mix
an enzyme concentrate with the food waste being ground at the time of
grinding. It's supposed to enhance the breakdown of the food waste. It
may just be hype, but we're looking into it.

This is the first house I've lived in without a garbage disposal since
early childhood. I really miss it, so am quite interested in getting one
that won't screw up the septic system.
