I think it's harder to mess up the septic system that people allude to
here. I was on a septic system as a kid and we had a garbage
disposal. Meat definitely didn't go down the drain, but I don't
remember being all that careful about scraping every little speck into
the dog pot either... I'm part of the waste not, want not generation -
so meat scraps and fat went to the dogs, if there was any to give.
What ticks me off is the way people on septic systems get all
hysterical about things that only affect septic systems without saying
it's the septic system they're talking about. *My* main concern is
not using enough water while running the garbage disposal, not what I
put into it. I'm on a sewer system and if I wanted to put an entire
body down the garbage disposal, I could do it. It's going to cost me
a small fortune in sewer tax - not because I put a body down the drain
but because of the water I used to flush it while grinding.
