Back in Cleveland many of the European ethnic Catholic churches made and
sold things like poppyseed and nut rolls, strudel, and pierohy. They were
sold on either a weekly or monthly schedule, depending on the church.
Everyone I knew, whether church memebers or not, bought these items because
they were better than any local bakery could produce. They sold their
goods to anyone who came in, and if you didn't get there early on a
Saturday morning, there was very little left.
