A belated Happy Birthday to you, Michael.
No need to ignore the birthdays, either. My mother, who truly was not
one to advise wisely about much of anything, and was quite vain about
her age to boot, was actually very pleased to celebrate the
anniversaries of her birth.
When I asked her why she loved birthdays so, she said at some point
she had thought about her upcoming birthday, realized what the
alternative was, and decided from that time on, she would enjoy each
and every birthday.
