This is a logical step. However, it's not needed if you are burying the
fruit in bread dough as it gets pretty steamy within the loaf during the
baking process. In my case, I avoid alcohol and would soak the fruits in
plain water or even in boiling water. But first I would just try the
fruits as is - cause I'm really, really lazy. :-)
