i bought one of those big-ass rat traps a few years ago because i liked it
as an object. i brought it to work and put it on top of the bookcase over
my desk. whenever someone asked about it, i would look around quickly,
lower my voice, and say, 'just between you and me we got plenty ****ing
rats around here.'
