If you avoid chat, keep your good friends in email except for the few who
don't email, and stay out of the personal politics it can still be fun.
(Meaning, don't buy into the cliques. Flame, ignore, killfile, suck up, etc.
on your own account, according to your own feelings. There are folks (most
notable Greg and Om) who change email addresses to avoid killfiles, but it
is easy enough to see who they are in the first couple of words so you still
don't have to read them. Killfiling topics would be good, but my reader does
not have that capacity. Had I never read the thread "Welfare babies" my
killfile would be much thinner.
