Hardly ever.....my stones have been in use for twenty plus years and
this has never been a problem at my kitchen.

If you are preheating your stones as recommended by manufacturers, you
will find they do not have residue when heated to the proper
temperature.

Good luck....and maybe you might need an effective kitchen fan.
