Read it while ya can, those alternative weeklies will soon be history. The
Chicago _Reader_ here is a pitiful thing, down to one pathetic thin section
from a fat three not so long ago. I used to read the _City Paper_ online, I
need to check it out again...
Of course the local Chicago noozepapers - _Tribune_ and _Sun - Times_ - are
not much better, they are getting thinner by the day it seems. Rumor is
that one will tank, the Tribune Company declared bankruptcy and the Sun -
Times group has announced huge losses.
The Trib "revamped" itself recently and now the front - main nooze section
is primarily soft "feature" articles and many of the articles are just
thinly - disguised "man in the street" blog - ish collections of opinions.
As for myself and many others I know, I like to read informed, cogent, news
reports, not puff pieces. And they wonder why they are losing money...
And so it goes...
