I've hardly ever been without one for over 40 years except in rented
apartments on vacation in Europe and when my own broke down. Let me tell
you that I missed having one badly except in France where garbage was
collected daily (!) Around here, food waste came get quite odorous after
sitting around for 3 days or a week in the summer. I also believe that
the sewage treatment plant does a better job of converting waste than
any land fill.
