As someone else mentioned, Maggie is the baby and Marge is his wife.

I saw a poster featuring two pigs having sex, with the caption "Making
Bacon!" when I was first in college in the early 70s. I would think
that was where it came from. "Making bacon" seems like an odd way to
describe people having sex.
