I also have mine checked quarterly and the average is 4.1-4.4.

Some days I crave a sandwich for lunch with bread but mostly I will make
a wrap using multi-grain tortillas.

I started shooting Lantus at night but found I was getting up to go to
the bathroom way too often so switched to mornings. It works better for
me that way as I don't eat big meals in the evening.

I've a SIL who is that way, he figures he can just eat whatever he
wants, like regular Coca Cola, a ten-ounce bag of potato chips, etc. and
just shoot more insulin. I've been insisting that my daughter take out a
lot more life insurance on him as his diet is counterproductive to
living a long and fruitful life.
