If you jump on the gadget source (
www.gadgetsource.com) you'll find
a very cheap meat thermometer made all of metal. The top part will
withstand pretty high temps and the therm part will be controlled by
the temp of the meat itself. Disasters will only cost about $3. Look
for a gadget shaped kind of like a stop sign with the pole and all.
