Last night, to accompany a dinner of larks' tongues in aspic, I decided
to open a bottle recently acquired from Bernie Madoff:
1947 Ch. Cheval Blanc St. Emilion
nose: Chanel No. 5, durian fruit, frankincense, myrrh, Panama Red
palate: an iron fist in a velvet glove, hedonistic liquid Viagra with a
6 hour finish
A phenomenal wine that gave no indication of its advanced age, the
screwcap was removed easily with Port tongs and a saber. The wine
itself was a startling pink-chartreuse in color with an ullage of 6 m.
It was decanted into our special purpose Riedel Premier Grand Cru Classé
St. Emilion decanter and provided an exquisite 35 seconds of pleasure.
Without question, this was the finest showing for this wine in my
experience.
After this memorable meal, we settled on a digestif of 2009 Mogen David
"MD 20/20" as the only appropriate accompaniment.
Namaste, Joe Beppe!
