It's not a significant comment of mine. I just noticed more than one
complaint about green onion, and it struck me a little strangely.

I guess for *some* folks. For some of those recipes, it was the only
fresh vegetable! I dislike the taste of margarine, and there is almost
nothing that will cover that up. At least in my memory. I don't think
I've eaten margarine on purpose in twenty years. Shortening, however,
has a very neutral taste. It's more of a texture than a taste. I don't
mind it, but, for some reason, I don't remember buying any for many
years.
