Unfortunately, most stores don't 'inform' their cashiers of this policy,
even though they have it posted somewhere inconvenient. If you have been
over charged, ask 'isn't it the store policy to.........' Usually you end
up with one item for free and any remaining similar items rung up correctly,
but they aren't trained to tell you, even if they know it the policy. I
worked at a grocery store and the manager told us 'never volunteer the
information' like it would come out of his pocket directly. An educated
shopper is a thrifty shopper.
