Unpacking is Fun!
After over a year of basically living in someone elses' house, now that I've
officially moved here I'm making it my own home. I've rediscovered my own
(sort of) belongings. Some of this stuff my mother gave me years ago. Like
the set of copper-tinted Jell-O molds from the 1950's. I've had them packed
away in a storage room for the last 20 years. They're now back out, freshly
washed and shining brightly! I'm going to hang them in my kitchen just as
though I was a 1960's housewife. LOL
I've unpacked my Fiestaware. (No, not the stuff that was lead based; I
bought mine later.) I have several lovely bright soup bowls, a purple
art-deco style pitcher and a spoon rest. It's good to see my own housewares
again.
I removed my mothers old boring Corelle dishes (I had the same ones for
years) and put my white lattice patterned dishes in the cabinet. I removed
the 1970's gold glassware and replaced them with my cobalt blue goblets.
Up until now I've basically been living out of a suitcase and feeling like I
was staying in a time-share (as Nancy Young put it). Now that I'm getting
to unpack my own things, decorate my house, it feels good.
OB Food: dinner tonight will be baked flounder fillets with steamed
spinach. Served on my own plates!
