But you see I had already pointed out that the Swastiska was as old as the
Neolithic period and had its modern origins in Indian symbolism. You
*added* that the Nazi use of the symbol was cribbed from decorations found
on Swedish fireplaces, but you actually failed to say how it got there or
what its significance was.

However, you might have missed the fact that the swastika (or hakenkreuz in
German) was worn by WWI pilots, of which Göring was one, as a symbol of
good luck. It was the good luck charm of pilots on both sides of the
lines, including Fitz Beckhardt and Werner Voss (Von Richthofen's wingman
for a while).

The story about the Swedish fireplace decoration may or may not be true,
but it is more likely that Göring picked it up from flyers' superstitions.
