There used to be a diner in downtown Pittsburgh near the Greyhound Bus
terminal called Al's Terminal Lunch.

When I lived in Detroit they had a local chain of cafeteria type
restaurants called Sign of the Beefcarver, which their specialty was
open faced fresh sliced beef sandwiches. It took me a while to
finally go there but the beef was good.
