What about open faced sammiches... like roast holiday turkey on white toast,
topped with dressing and flooded with gravy? Does pizza qualify as an open
faced sandwich, I think yes more than it qualifies as a pie.

How can those not be sandwiches, they epitomize the sandwich, taco means
sandwich.
