Kennedy and Johnson did Viet Nam because if they hadn't, the GOP would
have branded them as sympathetic with Communism. Period.
Do you think that the Great Society programs could have gotten through
Congress if Johnson had looked soft on Communism? Then Bobby k. was
killed and Nixon won in 1968, inheriting an unwinnable war, but still
continuing to send thousands of stupid kids over there to die for
freakin' nothing.
