Not after the "debacle" (tm applied for) of Czechoslovakia in May 1946
elections. Couldn't allow any democratic process result in a pro-Soviet
government. So better to pervert the system. They did it again in Gaza
recently. The plebiscite in Vietnam was not an isolated event, but rather
reflects the unwillingness of certain US administrations to have their
goals thwarted by local preferences.
