My question was more about the relativeness to no. of person in
household versus length of time. FYI, the water here is not too bad.

The reason I asked is that one time, when I inquired about over-the-
kitchen -counter water filter connected to the faucet, the sale perosn
said that regardless of how much weater is used, the filter needs to
be replaced every 6 mons due to mold. May be she said that because she
knew that it'd not be cost effective (compared to buying gallon-size
bottle water" to buy that thing if she said, "You can use it until 500
gallon of water have passed through it".
