I took it to mean a deliberately vegan meal with a deliberately vegan
main course. I've had such meals. Not a big deal to me.

Depends on your time scale, right? I've eaten bear meat. No bear has
ever eaten me (yet) but there were bears eating human-like ancestors
before they invented the sharp stick and sharp rock and human-like
ancestors started eating bears. I've eaten shark, too.
