Hello? Concept of zero? Counting began today for the next decade.
After 12 months go by (at the *end* of the year), we'll put a 1 in the
1's place at 12 AM New Year's Day 2011. Look at a 24 hour clock to
know when AM begins and pick your nits with the boyz at GMT.

The first year certainly did begin at zero. Think of babies birthdays
and you'll understand it a little better. When they were born, they
were 0 years old, at the end of 12 months (base 12), they are *one*
year. Hours and minutes are base 60 and all begin with zero. Oh, and
check your math. 20 minus 10 isn't 11.
