Here in Louisiana, accents from the Southern part of the state (New
Orleans) don't sound anything like accents here in the Northern part of
the state. Drive a little further North into Arkansas and it changes again.
I've found some of the thickest Southern accents come from states that
are pretty far north, like Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, etc.
