If there are people who are nostalgic about the taste of margarine, they
may also be nostalgic for the sound of falling bombs.
There was a wartime nostalgia chic some years back, where Spam dinners and
ersatz coffee were served to former servicemen on Parliament Hill here in
Ottawa. Thank the gods that died away.
We bought margarine for years (Olivina, mostly, part olive oil) but lately
we have been buying unsalted butter. I much prefer it although we do keep
a container of the margarine around (in case we run out of butter ;-) ). I
don't cook with butter though. I cook with pure (not VOO, EVOO, XVOO or
what have you) olive oil for eggs, vegetables and meats, and safflower oil
for breads and crêpes.
My mother ate butter every day and she lived to be 87.
