All you need is a gmail address to post from there. That's not
"joining" anything. Creating a gmail account isn't remotely "joining"
as in "Hi! I just joined this group". Nowhere does anything say
"join this group".
Only the most needy of people who just have to "belong" to something -
people who are indoctrinated in webtv, foodbanter or email lists (who
does that anymore - I couldn't stand them when they were popular)
would say anything like "I just joined" in connection to usenet.
