I only use the computer to send stuff on Twitter. You don't have to
have a special cell phone or anything.
The point is to get the message out to everyone, at once. I don't use
Twitter that much, but I read it a lot. I have a lot of food folks,
plus friends that I follow... I keep pretty up to date with what is
happening in the food world.
People you wouldn't suspect, are on Twitter... Tom Colichio is on
there, so is Michael Ruhlman, Ruth Reichl, Ree Drummond aka The
Pioneer Woman, and a whole host of chefs, cookbook authors (Anne
Willan, Dorie Greenspan, Zoie Frances of Artisan Bread in 5 minutes,
David Lebovitz, Pim of Chez Pim, Paula Wolfert,) and others. A LOT of
food bloggers are on Twitter, and I like keeping up with them.
Sometimes someone will say there are at such and such place...and ask
if anyone wants to join them for dinner, lunch or whatever...
And sometimes they post interesting links to articles, videos ... I
get a lot of new good information that way, that I really enjoy
reading. And some of those links to articles I have posted here
Twitter also became valuable last year when the newest Iranian crisis
happened...with all the protests, etc. It was the ONLY way that news
could get out to the rest of the world about what was happening. And
Twitter stepped up to the plate and helped keep it available in
Iran..and a lot of folks helped keep the news flowing from that
region. It is still one of the main ways news gets out now, about
what is really happening there.
