my absolute favorite story along these lines was told by a librarian. it
seems they had a patron who would 'edit' out naughty words in books using
white-out *and then carefully draw a little asterisk with a ballpoint pen*
to represent each letter thus expunged. i would say that's going beyond
the call of duty.
