I'm not into country music but he certainly did do his own commercials. One
of my brothers worked for Jimmy Dean Foods (which was later bought out by
the Sara Lee Corporation). They had test kitchens in the basement. Every
once in a while the employees would be asked to do taste tests. They'd be
trying out different seasonings or new products lines. He'd get to bring
home free samples of stuff, too. (And here I thought free coffee was nice!)

And yes, Jimmy would come to visit. He said any time Jimmy showed up at the
office he'd insist on [literally] picking up each of the women and swinging
them around like it was a square dance. (This was the 1980's... well before
people had sexual harrassment suits on their minds.) And he always wore a
big belt buckle with the initials 'JD' in diamonds.
