It doesn't matter if you haven't changed anything, sometimes settings
change. That's why you check. If you suspect malware is the problem,
then run a malware detection program and find out. There are plenty
of free ones out there. I use AdAware and CCleaner. Sky uses
Malwarebytes (which found something the other two didn't find for me
one time). After you use that, run a registry booster. I certainly
can't tell you why your copy of FF is doing what it's doing. You
asked if anyone else was having trouble with their update and I am
not.
I can tell you how I'd troubleshoot. First I'd reboot my computer,
which fixes most problems with no further monkeying around. Then I
would open IE and FF and compare their settings. If everything
matched, then I'd run AdAware and CCleaner (I have antivirus
installed, which runs daily). After that, I'd fix my registry. If
non of that worked, I'd reinstall Firefox.
I don't even know if you're using a desktop or laptop. Lately, my
netbook occasionally deselects the internet. Mostly it's after
hibernation or a shutdown, but sometimes I'm in the middle of doing
something.... I have no idea why it happens, but it does and it's not
due to a virus or malware. I just reselect my wireless connection and
I'm good to go. It seemed to be better after I fixed the registry, so
hopefully that problem is history now.
