Showing up for a Professor interview with one shoe, no, that would be a
problem--professor is pretty far up the food chain. But showing up for
an associate professor interview, they're expecting a newly minted PhD
who has been living on a student's income for going on a decade--one
shoe means that the other one fell apart.
