There are 2 distinct advantages to an immersion blender:

1. it's portable and can be used almost anywhere in the kitchen.
2. If one filled the bowl on a regular blender with hot liquid and then
turns it on - one creates an explosive situation and the food to be blended
ends up either on the ceiling on scalding the face & hands of the user or
both. This does not happen with an immersion blender.
